At the SPCA, exciting news usually means a long-timer was adopted or a sick pet made a full recovery. This news is a little less furry, but we think it is just as exciting.

The SPCA has been awarded a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator! That is four out of four stars, the highest rating possible.

If you’re unfamiliar with them, Charity Navigator evaluates nonprofits for “financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency.” Charity Navigator wants to see, among other things, that financial statements and other important information are available to those who want to see them. Simply put, organizations that follow industry best practices and provide important financial information earn the highest ratings.

“The SPCA of Wake County's exceptional 4-star rating sets it apart from its peers and demonstrates its trustworthiness to the public,” according to Michael Thatcher, President & CEO of Charity Navigator. “Only a quarter of charities rated by Charity Navigator receive the distinction of our 4-star rating. This adds the SPCA of Wake County to a preeminent group of charities working to overcome our world’s most pressing challenges. Based on its 4-star rating, people can trust that their donations are going to a financially responsible and ethical charity when they decide to support the SPCA of Wake County.”

We are particularly proud of this announcement because of what it says about the SPCA. It says the SPCA is careful with the money you choose to donate. It says you can trust that your donation directly supports pets in need. We work hard to be an organization you can feel good about supporting. We are reliable, trustworthy and genuine. A 4-star rating is validation for everything we’ve worked to achieve.

We know you have choices when it comes to the contributions you make. We hope you will take a moment to read about Charity Navigator and view our 2016 Impact Report, so you'll know what your gift can do for your community. We want you, our donors and supporters, to have greater peace of mind about where your money is going. We want you to know your generous contributions are being spent wisely. We want you to know that we are incredibly grateful and we could not do it without you.
