Temporary Pet Housing — Foster Application

Temporary Pet Housing Foster Program

In the face of unexpected hardships, such as housing crises or domestic violence, sometimes pets and their owners are forced apart, leaving owners heartbroken and pets ending up in the already-competitive shelter system. When crises or natural disasters strike and animal shelters are affected, large numbers of animals need immediate assistance or evacuation to safe areas, and saving lives depends on having emergency foster care available.

As a Temporary Pet Housing foster, you will be a lifeline in these emergency situations — from taking in pets evacuated from disaster areas, to helping a pet owner facing temporary hardship so they can be reunited with their beloved pets instead of having their family broken apart. If you would like to open your home and heart to help pets and people during their most difficult times, please let us know by filling out the form below.

I understand that if I plan a vacation, this foster pet may not accompany me. Petsitting must be pre-approved.
Fosters are responsible for picking up pets and for transporting them to and from medical appointments and adoption meetings. We like to aim for same or next day adoptions, so transportation may be needed on short notice. Do you have a reliable source of transportation?
Any animal(s) in foster care remain(s) the sole property of the SPCA of Wake County and I will return the animal(s) to the SPCA upon request or if I am, for any reason, unable to care for them, I agree not to give them to or permit them to be housed with any other person. I agree to hold the SPCA harmless for any direct or consequential damages arising from this foster care agreement.
I agree to provide appropriate food, water, shelter, climate control, and attention to my foster animal(s). I understand that my interactions with my foster(s) are to be positive and that physical punishment and/or harsh treatment is not permitted. I understand that cats and kittens are to be kept strictly indoors to protect them against FeLV and FIV among other risks.
The SPCA of Wake County will provide medical care for my foster animal(s), including age-appropriate vaccines, treatment for intestinal and external parasites, and prescribed medications. I understand that I should notify the appropriate SPCA staff member about any medical or health concerns, and that I should not seek veterinary treatment without prior approval.
The SPCA of Wake County is unable to provide transportation to and from the Centers. I understand that I am responsible for getting the foster pet(s) to medical and adoption appointments in a timely manner.
The SPCA of Wake County can provide necessary supplies and equipment (crates/carriers, litter, litterboxes, etc.) for my foster animal(s).
