The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) of Wake County accepted a $25,000 donation on behalf of Arch Capital Services in the wake of Hurricanes Florence and Michael.
The SPCA of Wake County was able to not only take in 20 animals from a flooded shelter directly after the storm, but jumped into action connecting supplies and volunteers with organizations in the hardest hit areas. It was this work that inspired Arch and its employees to make this investment in their community through a $25,000 gift to the SPCA of Wake County.

We are proud to pledge $25,000 to the SPCA of Wake County to aid in their efforts to care for animals and pet owners, particularly in the wake of the powerful storms that devastated the Carolinas this Fall,” says Annie Yarmy, Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Arch.
“We are confident this donation will help the SPCA of Wake County create a lasting impact in North Carolina, home to hundreds of Arch employees,” Yarmy adds.
“The SPCA plays a large role in keeping pets safe with their families. Before and after the storm hit, our team was on the road connecting people and supplies,” says SPCA Spokeswoman, Tara Lynn. “The SPCA acted as a pipeline to connect volunteers and supplies where they were needed the most.”
Before the storm made landfall, our staff and volunteers were on the road providing local, low-income seniors with pet food and supplies. When recovery efforts were underway, the SPCA provided pets with life-saving vaccines, heartworm and flea/tick preventive medication. This was a crucial part of the response effort to prevent the spread of disease as people and pets are in concentrated areas and coming in contact with flood waters.
Thanks to Arch, the SPCA of Wake County was able to continue to care for the animals with us during the storm, taking in additional animals and providing supplies and life-saving vaccines to rescues across the Triangle and coast.
