Update: Hurricane Helene Emergency Response

A Collaboration to Save Lives

As our neighbors in Western North Carolina continue the process of recovering and rebuilding in the wake of Hurricane Helene's devastation, all hands are on deck at SPCA Wake to provide assistance and relief to affected shelters and families. Over the past two weeks, we have taken in dozens of displaced pets evacuated from the area and shared hundreds of pounds of emergency supplies with those in need — all because of your generous support. We are deeply grateful for your past contributions, which have made all this possible.

We continue to partner with national transport organizations moving pets out of devastated areas — by wheels or wings — ensuring those pets are evacuated to safe areas like Raleigh while also creating vacancies at the remaining functional shelters to take in and reunite pets lost during the storm.

As of Wednesday, October 16th, we have taken in four rounds of cats and dogs from affected shelters, providing veterinary care, foster homes, and adoption services for each and every pet on their road to starting anew here in Raleigh. But we continue to receive urgent requests for help and supplies every day, and we need your help to meet these emergency needs. Your support is crucial as our western communities continue the difficult and emotional process of slowly rebuilding.

Your gift today will help provide lifesaving care to evacuated pets, such as antibiotics, pain relief, and surgeries, and support ongoing efforts to provide help as needed, including supply deliveries and temporary foster homes, as we continue our efforts over the coming weeks. Thank you for being a hero to pets and people every day, but especially now when hope, community, and generosity mean more than ever.

Help is still urgently needed:
