SPCA Wake is closed to the public through (at least) April 12.
So now what? Well, we have an idea…
Since you can’t visit the pets, we’re bringing the pets to you! Yes, we are broadcasting SPCA adoptable pets to you via Facebook live stream. Every day at 2 PM an SPCA staff member will tour the adoption center meeting with each adoptable pet.
Essentially, SPCA Wake is creating a version of the Home Shopping Network, called the Home Adopting Network while the adoption center is closed to the public, to curb the spread of COVID-19. Potential adopters will be able to communicate directly with the camera operator, asking questions about specific pets, requesting belly rubs, or deliver treats on the viewer’s behalf.
Interested adopters can then fill out an adoption survey, email it to email@example.com and an Adoption Specialist will contact them to schedule a 1-on-1 appointment once the “Stay at Home” proclamation is no longer in effect.
What to Expect When Scheduling an Adoption Appointment:
Right now, to minimize the spread of COVID-19, our Adoption Team is working with a skeleton crew. Please know, we are processing the adoption surveys as soon as possible, and we are operating on a first-come/first-served email basis.
1– When you email your adoption survey, please have the pet you’re interested in mind (we are unable to let visitors in the building).
2- Email is the most convenient way to hold your place in line. There is no need to follow up with a call.
3- Once your email has been received, please hold tight as we make our way down the list (it may be a day or two before you receive a call back from our team).
4- Unfortunately, we are unable to respond to applications/surveys if a pet is already on hold. Check online (there will be a note on the pet’s photo if a pet already has an adoption pending) and the website is updated in real-time.
We thank you for your patience, and we are so happy you’re interested in adopting!
With current events, there is a lot unknown in the world right now. SPCA Wake’s Home Adopting Network hopes to showcase adoptable pets, bring joy and smiles to the community while showing the lifesaving work continues no matter what – and the animals need their ongoing financial support.
“This spring we had to make the hard decision to reroute two large fundraising events. One of which typically raises over $250,000 for the pets and people in our community. The financial loss of these events is a serious blow to our programs and services, which is why now more than ever, our community’s support is needed,” says Darci VanderSlik, SPCA Wake Spokesperson. “The goal of the daily Home Adopting Network stream is two-fold: to find homes for our pets, and to show how donations are needed to continue this work,” VanderSlik continued. “Can’t adopt today? Make a donation toward a pet’s care instead!”
SPCA Wake’s Home Adopting Network begins March 17th and will stream daily at 2 PM EST on the SPCA’s Facebook LIVE (facebook.com/spcawake). Interested Adopters should fill out the adoption survey, and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org. Don’t have access to email? Leave us a voicemail at 919-772-2326 (we will check it periodically thoughout the day. Please know that email is fastest and the preferred method of scheduling).
