PRESS RELEASE - The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar

June 27, 2018, CHARLOTTE, N.C. – NFL Carolina Panthers Head Coach Ron Rivera is willing to take big gambles on the field if he foresees a big payoff for his “Cardiac Cats.” That style has earned him the nickname “Riverboat Ron.”

Now in his eighth season with the team, Rivera is a familiar sight around Charlotte. And at the original location of The Cowfish.

Rivera loves to win. And he also loves to give back to the community. His latest community service effort is the “Riverboat Ron Roll,” which he developed with Master Sushi Chef Rifali Almunir.

The roll’s crunchy interior is made with softshell crab, kani and cucumber. That’s topped with avocado, eel sauce and spicy mayo. It’s served with a side of poke with avocado for $17. For every Riverboat Ron Roll sold, The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar – in Charlotte and Raleigh – and eeZ Fusion Sushi, in Huntersville, NC, will donate $2 to the charity partners Rivera chose in the restaurants’ cities: Humane Society of Charlotte and SPCA of Wake County.

The guy who makes the tough calls on the field has a soft spot for animals. He and wife Stephanie have recently been grieving the death of their two dogs. The Riveras wanted to give to organizations that supports pet adoption.

Like football season, softshell crab season is brief. The Riverboat Ron Roll will be available for a limited time – from July through September only.

“Coach Rivera has been so much fun to work with,” says Alan Springate, The Cowfish co-owner. “He cares about details, so he was very interested in choosing the ingredients – all of which he loves – for his roll. But his favorite part about this experience is having the chance to raise money for an organization that’s so important to him and his family.”

A two-time NFL Coach of the Year, Rivera led the Panthers to four playoff appearances in a five-year span (2013-2017). During that time, the team won 51 games, the most in any five-year period in franchise history.
