Raleigh, N.C. - Wilma arrived at the SPCA of Wake County less than two weeks ago. You could visibly count her ribs and see the strain of her pregnancy on her weak body.

She was so frail, the SPCA medical team wasn't sure if she or her puppies would survive the labor process. We offered her a safe space and nutritious food to help fuel her body with the energy she would soon need. And then we waited by her side...

A few days later, she had not only gained weight but also gave birth to NINE healthy puppies. Just look at her happy face (above) as she stands proudly with her brand new babies.

Wilma and her puppies will remain in an SPCA foster home for several weeks while they grow and gain weight. They will receive needed vaccinations, medical care, and spay/neuter surgery before being adopted. Wilma is heartworm positive and will need further medical treatment.
