ABOUT THE SPCA OF WAKE COUNTY

What we do:

We save pets, and we help people.
For many of the 20,000 companion animals we helped in 2019, our services made the difference between life and death. We also help pet owners at risk of losing their pets due to financial or other circumstances.

Where we work:

Locally. While most of our services are
concentrated on Wake’s large, growing, and dynamic metropolitan area, we also work in 49 NC counties through collaborative partnerships. We assist communities throughout our region by transferring animals to our shelter, providing emergency and disaster relief, and routing essential supplies to rural animal shelters in need.

How we work:

We are completely funded by a passionate
community of donors who care. Charitable
support funds 90% of our budget, and
adoption fees make up the remaining 10%.
We are not affiliated with any national group, including the ASPCA. We are not a government agency and do not receive local, state, or federal funds.

TAKE A VIRTUAL WALK-THROUGH OF OUR BUILDINGS

An in-person “behind-the-scenes” tour of our daily work has long been our most compelling way to engage people with our work and demonstrate the impact of donor support.

Due to safety precautions, our three facilities remain closed to the general public. But in order to provide a glimpse of our work and current facilities, we partnered with a local company to offer these 3-D virtual tours. Control the walkthrough yourself, or simply hit play in the lower left of your screen. You can pause anytime to take a look around! Enjoy!

SPCA Wake Pet Adoption Center

More than 4,200 pets each year find loving families through the services housed in this building. This Center also houses our dynamic people-focused programs to keep pets in homes and out of area animal shelters.

SPCA Wake Pet Admission Center

Once the first animal shelter in the region, our current Admission Center is one of the oldest animal sheltering facilities in the state. Built in 1970, nearly 300,000 pets and 1 million people have found help through services provided at this building. Today, this Center is the first stop for more than 4,300 homeless pets on their way to adoption. This building also houses the hub of our innovative shelter partner collaborations, our state-wide shelter pet transport efforts, and supports our emergency and disaster relief work.

SPCA Wake Program - Saving Lives Spay/Neuter Clinic

Dubbed “the little engine that could,” this modular building was assembled in 2008, opened in January 2009, has been in heavy use for the past 11 years. More 62,000 dogs and cats have received spay/neuter services through this SPCA low-cost program, preventing an estimated 400,000 births of animals that likely would have needed sheltering services.
